The fall sitting of the First Session of the 27th Legislature commenced on October 14, 2008 and adjourned on December 3, 2008. The Legislature will resume sitting on February 10, 2009.

1. Progress of Government and Private Members' Bills (new and amended legislation).

Bill 204, Traffic Safety (Hand-Held Communication Devices) Amendment Act, 2008 (Johnston)

This private member's Bill prohibits hand-held communication devices while driving. Link to Bill 204. First Reading April 24, 2008. Second Reading May 26, 2008. Referred to Standing Committee on the Economy. Oct. 22 aft., not proceeded with.

Bill 52, the Health Information Amendment Act

This legislation ensures that health information is secure in whatever medium it is provided, especially electronic means. Link to Bill 52. First Reading November 24, 2008. Passed second reading on November 27, 2008, referred to Standing Committee on Health.

Bill 34: Employment Pension Plans Amendment Act, 2008

Bill 34 amends chapter E-8 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta, The Employment Pension Plans Act; Multilateral agreement; Order for allocation or splitting of assets and liabilities, among others. Link to Bill 34. First Reading October 16, 2008 and Second Reading debate started October 20. Passed second reading on October 28, 2008 and sent to Committee of the Whole for review. Passed on October 29, 2008. Received third reading on November 3, 2008 and Royal Assent on November 4. The Bill will come into force at various dates. Section 11 is deemed to have come into force on August 10, 2006.
