Bill 1, Labour Standards Act to Provide for Leave for Reservists (Amdt.)
|
This Bill amend the Labour Standards Act to provide a leave of absence for employees who serve in the Reserve of the Canadian Force. Link to Bill 1. First Reading March 10, 2008.
Received Second Reading and Third Reading on April 22, 2008; Bill 1, received Royal Assent on June 4, 2008 and will come into force by proclamation.

BILL 7, An Act to Provide for the Protection of Personal Health Information
|
This Bill would establish a set of comprehensive privacy protection rules applicable to the collection, use, disclosure and disposition of personal health information by the public and private sector components of the health system.

The Bill was amended and received Third Reading on May 27, 2008. Received Royal Assent on June 4, 2008.

Bill 23, Labour Relations Act (Amdt.)
|
This Bill would amend the Labour Relations Act to establish the Labour Management Arbitration Committee. Link to Bill 23.
First Reading April 22, 2008. The Bill received second and third reading in Legislature on April 28, 2008, received Royal Assent on June 4, 2008.

Bill 21, Pension Benefits Act, 1997 (Amdt.)
|
This Bill would amend the Pension Benefits Act, 1997 to require a pension plan sponsor to fully fund a solvency deficiency on the wind-up of the plan. Link to Bill 21.
First Reading April 14, 2008. The Bill received second and third reading in Legislature on April 24, 2008, and received Royal Assent on June 4, 2008.The changes to the Pension Benefits Act, 1997 came into force in June 2008, and will apply retroactively to pension plan terminations taking place after Apr. 1, 2008.

Bill 27, An Act to Amend the Health and Post-Secondary Education Tax Act
|
The purpose of the Bill is to amend the definition of exemption threshold found in the Health and Post-Secondary Education Tax Act to exempt the first $1,000,000 of an employer's payroll from a tax under this Act. Link to Bill 27.
First Reading May 1, 2008. The Bill received Second Reading in Legislature on May 12, 2008. The Bill received Third Reading on May 15, 2008 and received Royal Assent June 4, 2008.

Bill 26, Income Tax Act, 2000 (Amdt.)

This Bill would amend the Income Tax Act, 2000 to reduce the rate of personal income tax by one percentage point in each personal tax bracket. Link to Bill 26.
